Zoom on Château Citran 2005, the good deal of the moment

23 October 2012 - News, Focus on..., Château Citran 2005

It is because part of its terroir borders on the Margaux appellation that the wine of Citran presents such elegance. This Cru Bourgeois from Haut-Médoc, whose origin dates back at least to 1235, has rejoined the elite of the great Bordeaux wines due to the efforts of the Merlaut-Villars family, owners of the chateau since 1996. They have undertaken major replanting of vines on superior quality soils.

It is not a surprise therefore, that the growth has attained its most beautiful expression in the sublime vintage 2005 : a nose of fresh blackberries and raspberries, notes of toast and spice on the palate, which reflect modern vinification methods with an intelligent use of new wood ; but it is the flesh of the 2005 Citran which is particularly seductive, thanks to a significant proportion of merlot.

The wine is so consensual, all the experts agree :

« Elegant smoothn good Cru Bourgeois, easy and rapidly accessible. »
La Revue du vin de France, 16/20

« The merlot is on par with the cabernet-sauvignon in the blend of this 2005 which confirms the regularity of quality of this growth. »
Guide Hachette, 1 étoile

« This wine is equivalent to a classified fifth growth. »
Robert Parker
