Wine of the month of July : Château d'Esclans, Côtes de Provence

01 July 2014 - News, Focus on..., July 1st 2014

Château d’Esclans, Côtes de Provence rosé 2012

The luxury rosé ! This is the winemaker Patrick Léon, formerly from Château Mouton Rothschild, who directs the winemaking ... We understand why this rosé looks like a Grand Cru !

But Esclans is above all the work of Sacha Lichine, former owner of Cru Classé Prieuré-Lichine in Margaux, who bought this Provencal vineyard in 2006. The 44 hectares of vines -. including some aged 90 - are planted of Grenache, Rolle, Syrah, Cinsault and Tibouren brilliantly blended to give birth to this haute-couture rosé.

Esclans is perhaps the only rosé to have to wait in the cellar at least one year before tasting ! Le 2012 rosé is ready today, on its irresistible notes of wild cherry, pear and pink grapefruit, enhanced with a spicy and finely toasted nuance. We find in the final this mineral tension of extreme freshness signing the 2012 vintage.

90/100 Wine Spectator

"Nothing is left to chance to make beautiful wines (...) luxury rosés are often closer in texture and flavour to great white wines, finely wooded, drinkable after one or two years. "  La Revue du vin de France

"We can only praise the vast majority of the production. "
